Your face instead of a key card: How embedded AI makes access more secure

Embedded AI face recognition allows access rights to be managed efficiently, in compliance with data protection regulations, and in a tamper-proof manner.

Embedded AI face recognition enables efficient, data protection-compliant, and tamper-proof management of access rights.

With embedded AI face recognition, access rights can be managed efficiently, in compliance with data protection regulations, and in a tamper-proof manner—without the cloud and without the risk of misuse.

Whether it’s machine control, sensitive production areas, or IT terminals, in many industrial companies, it is crucial to know who has access to what. Traditional access systems with keycards or passwords quickly reach their limits: cards get lost or passed on, passwords are forgotten or shared.

The solution: embedded AI face recognition – directly on the sensor, without the cloud.

Our system is currently in the pre-development stage. The goal is to create a technology that is not only reliable but also customizable. We rely on a sensor principle that elegantly solves many of the problems of conventional

🧠 Embedded AI on the sensor: local, secure, customizable

Our solution distinguishes faces directly on the sensor – embedded, without external data processing. Where possible, we use a time-of-flight sensor instead of a conventional camera. This offers decisive advantages:

  • Recognition of real faces through distance information
  • Temperature measurement as additional security against deception attempts
  • No images, no videos, no central storage

This ensures that no photo or screenshot can be held in front of the sensor – a common problem with simple face recognition systems.

🔄 Flexible, tamper-proof, and ideal for SMEs

Smaller and medium-sized teams in particular benefit from embedded AI face recognition:

  • No temporary access codes for external service providers
  • No risk from shared key cards
  • Secure exclusion of access by unknown persons

Time-limited access or role-based rights assignment can also be easily and automatically mapped.

Once set up – with just a few glances at the camera – the sensor recognizes the person and links them to the appropriate rights.

✅ Data protection compliant – even with a works council

A key aspect: data protection. Thanks to complete processing on the sensor, our solution is:

  • GDPR-compliant
  • Works with works councils
  • No data transfer
  • Real-time
  • Energy efficient

No images are stored, only mathematical features – and even those don’t leave the sensor. This means the solution meets the highest standards for data protection and information security.

📌 Conclusion: Access was just the beginning

Embedded AI face recognition opens up numerous possibilities that go beyond simple access control:

  • Machine release
  • Shift change logging
  • Operator-specific quality data
  • Secure remote access

The system is currently being developed to market maturity in close cooperation with pilot customers.
