How we develop your embedded AI sensor – Innovation in three steps

Consultation

It always starts with a problem. Whether it’s unplanned downtimes, device or tool wear, user interaction issues (voice and gesture control, person and object recognition, etc.) or functional improvements to your product, let’s talk.

Prototype as proof of concept

If an order is placed, we start with the prototype development. The goal: to develop an embedded AI sensor that is as cost-effective as possible. To do this, we rely on semiconductors and the smallest possible computing units (e.g. MCU, MPU, HMP, FPGA etc.) and low energy requirements. We have outlined the individual project steps here.

Series development, production and delivery

In the last step, we take over the serialization and delivery of the prototype. To do this, we optimize the system iteratively, add further functionality if desired, take over the pre-tests for serialization (we have all the necessary facilities in-house) and finally deliver the finished system to you. How AI is created and comes on the chip

01 Project setup

  • Consultancy to find suitable use cases
  • Development of an implementation concept together with the customer 
  • Selection of the sensors required for the proof of concept by our experts

02 Data acquisition

  • Data acquisition on selected customer devices with specially developed acquisition hardware
  • Possible in the AITAD laboratory, at the customer’s site, or in the field

03 Data analysis

  • Analysis, structuring and pre-filtering of the collected data for training the AI 
  • Duplication of the data through data augmentation
  • Determining the sensors that will ultimately be used 

04 Development

  • Development and training of suitable machine learning models on in-house high-performance computers 
  • Your data always remains secure and does not leave our company.
  • At the same time, development of the hardware that will later house the AI model, consisting of a sensor, computing unit and interface

05 Proof of concept

  • The most know-how-intensive step: reducing the model size so that the AI model fits on the smallest possible hardware
  • Creation of a prototype that demonstrates the desired capabilities

06 Series production

  • Iterative optimization of the prototype until it is ready for series production
  • Testing, certification, iterative completion and field tests of the software and hardware
  • Establishment of the specific supply chain
  • System integration and delivery as well as product maintenance (including ML model updates)
