Why embedded AI?

Embedded AI makes possible what medical technology has seen as a challenge for years, but was unable to realize until three years ago due to technical limitations. The key trend drivers of this technology are its core characteristics: embedded AI is securely encapsulated, resource-saving and cost-effective in the sense that it does not require a network connection. At the same time, it works in real time, delivering results and decisions within milliseconds.

AITAD GmbH from Offenburg in the Black Forest has been working with embedded AI, the latest stage of development in the field of artificial intelligence, since 2018 and has been outgrowing the pure research stage for almost three years. This technology differs fundamentally from the more common cloud and edge solutions on the market, which is made clear by the fact that a network connection is no longer necessary and the function of the application is guaranteed even in a stand-alone state. This means that new functions can be implemented in medtech devices, processes in medical devices can be optimized and the reliability of medical products can be improved. Essentially, these are centimeter-sized sensors on which the AI works independently. It does not matter whether it is a camera sensor, a vibration sensor or a lidar or spectrometer.
