Embedded AI
An extra push for the machine market

Offenburg, March 27, 2023
Supply bottlenecks, declining orders and uncertainty about what comes next are weighing on German machine manufacturers. By integrating innovations such as embedded AI into their products, they can expand their leasing, maintenance and service business models.
…..
Probably the biggest hidden need for many product manufacturers is currently the typical maintenance topics such as predictive maintenance or preventive maintenance, which go beyond simple condition monitoring and provide early and intelligent predictions of specific error patterns and thus largely prevent unplanned machine downtime.
…..
Companies that use embedded AI benefit in two ways: By using embedded AI for predictive/preventive maintenance, the reliability of machines can be almost 100 percent guaranteed. With machines that indicate wear or upcoming repairs months in advance, service repairs and the procurement of required new wear parts can be organized in good time. This creates better planning security and prevents sudden breakdowns and unnecessary production downtime. The longevity of a machine thus becomes a mutual interest for both manufacturer and customer and enables a significantly higher level of sustainability. Manufacturers, in turn, can introduce new business models such as hardware-as-a-service and thus benefit from regularly recurring revenue. On the other hand, the use of embedded AI enables new innovative functions in products and offers customers greater added value and benefits.
