Economics Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut visits the Offenburg high-tech AI company

High-ranking visitor to Offenburg-based company AITAD GmbH: Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, came to see the development and production of the specialist for embedded artificial intelligence (embedded AI) for herself. State Secretary Volker Schebesta MdL from Offenburg, IHK-Oberrhein boss Dr. Dieter Salomon from Freiburg, nectanet Managing Director Dominik FehringerHead of Social Affairs Heiko Faller(Ortenau District Office) and Theresia Denzer-Urschel from the Offenburg Employment Agency also took the opportunity to get to know high-tech from Ortenau. During the company tour, AITAD Managing Director Viacheslav Gromov explained the development and production process of so-called embedded AI system components to the guests.

AITAD is not an unknown company for Hoffmeister-Kraut. It was only at the beginning of June that she named the innovative company “AI Champion Baden-Württemberg 2023”. As part of the digital summit organized by the state, AITAD presented an intelligent shower sensor system that ensures greater comfort, safety and sustainability in the bathroom.

The Minister was impressed by the innovative strength of the predominantly very young team at AITAD: “I see embedded AI as a major growth driver for the use of artificial intelligence in industry. The integration of AI solutions not only guarantees the security of data transmission, but also reduces energy consumption. I am therefore delighted to be able to visit AITAD GmbH, a pioneer in customized embedded AI solutions and one of the country’s AI protagonists and ambassadors. The AITAD GmbH team impresses with its vision and innovative spirit, which is why it was also named AI Champion BW this year,” said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism, during her visit to AITAD GmbH.

Artificial intelligence is an important and innovation-driving topic for the European economy. However, it is also about maintaining independence from global players in order to ensure data security and a competitive edge. AITAD founder and CEO Viacheslav Gromov is certain that embedded AI “enables AI to be used in a decentralized manner, is independent of the clouds of major American and Asian corporations and can give European industry a significant head start”. The framework conditions such as AI regulation and transfer, promoting education and focusing on the technologies in which Germany is a pioneer are crucial.

AITAD develops and manufactures intelligent sensors that run independently of clouds and servers using local artificial intelligence. “This has only been possible for a few years thanks to the growing performance of semiconductors,” says Gromov. Such chips are available for as little as 40 cents, making embedded AI solutions significantly cheaper than the large AIs that are usually dependent on clouds or servers. Embedded AI is of great importance for autonomous driving and the automotive world, where decisions must be made within milliseconds about the behavior of the vehicle, the failure of drive components or a stroke detected in the driver’s face in order to avoid an accident, for example. Due to its versatility, however, this AI can also be used in many other industries: to prevent machine failures in production plants, AI reports an emerging problem long before it occurs (predictive maintenance), in medical technology, voice and / or gesture control can be used to simplify operation and counteract the shortage of skilled workers. In the bathroom, embedded AI ensures greater comfort and safety – for example, the shower sensor developed by AITAD, which not only regulates water consumption and water temperature but can also detect falls, was awarded the “embeddedaward2023”, the world’s most important prize in the electronics industry.

In addition to the main topic of “Artificial Intelligence”, the high-ranking guests also discussed issues relating to Baden-Württemberg as a location for start-ups and the general conditions for investments in “THE LÄND”, as Baden-Württemberg has recently started to call itself.
