AI Act worries the industry

Offenburg, November 29, 2023
The visit by Martin Gassner-Herz (FDP), member of the German Bundestag, to AITAD GmbH from Offenburg, which has been named “AI Champion 2023” by the state of Baden-Württemberg, was all about the big issues.
For example, the question of what impact the “AI Act”, which is about to be passed by the European Union, could have. “If it comes, as is currently planned, it will paralyze the industry,” Viacheslav Gromov, head of the Offenburg-based future company, is convinced. It is incomprehensible that Germany has not taken the lead in this process, so one has to ask whether the German government is influencing what is happening in Brussels at a national level.
Gassner-Herz and Gromov agreed on the need for liability regulation for artificial intelligence. If Germany were to take the lead here, it could become a real location factor and attract the entire AI sector to Germany.
Gromov then presented the company’s portfolio. The solutions developed by AITAD are “intelligent sensors” that use artificial intelligence to enable much deeper data analysis, but which, in contrast to technologies from Asia, work in full compliance with data protection regulations and are used for the benefit of people. For example, AI is being taught to smell so that future generations of stoves won’t burn anything. AITAD is also developing intelligent toothbrushes that not only help people brush better, but also assess the condition of their teeth. AITAD is also a supplier to the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and medical technology. “In the near future, it will be possible, for example, to detect respiratory diseases simply by listening to the patient’s voice,” predicted Gromov.
During the subsequent tour of the company, Gromov explained the EMS production line that AITAD uses to manufacture the circuit boards on which the specially developed AI is installed. Gassner-Herz was very impressed: “It’s really great what you’re doing here.” The FDP politician also promised to take the suggestions to politicians in Berlin and feed them into the right channels.
